Media Marketing – also referred to as Social Media Marketing — is the idea of a business developing an online community or “Tribe,” which allows customers to discuss and share his/her experience of a particular brand or service. In most cases, the online community includes blogs, podcasts, message boards, and product reviews, all of which contribute to an interactive forum where the customer can post praises, criticisms, questions, and suggestions.
One of the primary arguments to promote Media Marketing is that traditional advertising is losing its influence on consumers — consumers are making purchasing decisions off Internet research and referrals much more often. Consumers are more likely to believe feedback from like-minded peers (word of mouth marketing) than corporate marketing through TV, radio, direct mail, or newspaper advertising.
Although businesses would be exposing their weaknesses to the marketplace by allowing individuals, or even competitors, to post critical comments, responding with an honest answer designed to solve the issue at hand may reduce potential risks.
Media Marketing is most effectively marketed by Internet-driven technology such as blogs, RSS (Really Simple Syndication = Web feed), Web video productions, and podcasts.
